New Fall schedule and Worship changes

September 20, 2009
9:00 amto10:00 am
10:30 amto11:30 am

On September 20th we will start our fall worship and Kids Club schedule:

9:00 am – Contemporary Worship Service
9:00 am – Kid’s Club students are part of worship in the Sanctuary
9:15 am – Kid’s Club students continue their learning downstairs
10:00 am – Contemporary worship lets out and Adult Fellowship begins
10:15 am – Kid’s Club lets out and Family Fellowship begins in the Fellowship hall downstairs
10:30 am – Traditional Worship Service

What does our new schedule offer our visitors and members? A lot!

MEETING THE NEEDS OF TODAY’S FAMILIES

Our 9 o’clock worship service gives parents with children adequate time to get up in the morning and get their kids ready for church, without too much chaos and frustration. This generation (with both parents often working outside the home) tends to get up later on Sundays than previous generations. Therefore, an 8 o’clock service is too early. However, many parents with children view 10:30 am as being too late because too much of a precious non-workday is gone before they get home from church. Thus, our 9 o’clock service is scheduled and designed to meet the needs of young families.

At this 9 AM service, children will have an opportunity to worship with their parents at the beginning of the worship service and we will tailor this opening segment of worship to be kid-friendly. At 9:15 AM, the children are dismissed for Kid’s Club so that they can continue learning about Jesus in an age-appropriate setting, rather than sitting for a full hour in worship designed for older youth and adults. This approach allows children to learn the importance of worship while also keeping them engaged (by our keeping things age-appropriate for them while they are here).

This worship format also allows parents with young children a quiet time each week (9:15 AM – 10:00 AM) to meditate on God’s Word for them. Many young parents will view this quiet time in worship with God as a blessing and a source of renewal.

Those parents who prefer their children attending the hour-long worship service with them are accommodated, as well. Children can attend Kid’s Club until it lets out at 10:15 AM. Then the family can easily attend the 10:30 AM service together as a family.

ENHANCED FELLOWSHIP

This schedule also allows for more fellowship among members who do not attend the same worship service because of the short span of time between the services – as opposed to the large gap between the 8:00 and 10:30 AM services.

A CHOICE OF WORSHIP STYLES

The new consolidated schedule allows us to offer two quality services. Each of these services will be designed to reach a little different audience. The first service will be designed to better meet the needs of the unchurched and parents with young children. The second service will be designed to better meet the needs of those who like more traditional worship. Offering both styles of worship will give us the greatest opportunity to reach more people with God’s love.

We hope you are excited to try this new worship schedule. We think it will give Zion Lutheran the best opportunities for vibrancy and faithfulness. If you have questions, feel free to contact Pastor Haney.

ConFEST 2009

October 21, 2009
6:00 pmto8:30 pm

Zion Lutheran Church has again been asked to host ConFest on Wed. October 21 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.  This event is for confirmation age students to come meet the Bishop, learn about the ELCA, our synod, other area organizations and have an awesome worship experience.  This is a wonderful opportunity for us to open our church to area congregations.  It will, however, take many helping hands to make this event run smoothly.  I am in need of people to be here the night of the event to monitor the nearly 400 students that will attend as well as a few who will be willing to help with detailed planning.  Please call Deb if you are willing to take part.
