Rally Sunday / Kid’s Club

The first day of Kids Club classes will start Sunday Sept. 13th.
We of course will need help with the education of our young people this year – PLEASE consider helping! We are seeking new members for the Education Committee.
Kids Club, J.A.M., T.A.G., M.U.G.S., and High school Youth are all in need of your help.
Please contact Deb or any member of our education or youth committee if you would like to get involved.
- Student will share songs from Vacation Bible School.
- All students should bring their backpacks to worship.
- 3 year olds receive a bible.

Apple Affair is October 3, 2009. Pies will again be made Friday October 2, 2009 to be sold at Apple Affair on Saturday. Help is needed for Pie making at Zion starting at 7:30 am on Friday.

WANTED: Parish Pals (formerly called Mentors)
Adults to be a pal to a confirmation student. If you are willing to develop a persona trusted relationship through caring conversations with one of our upcoming 7th grade confirmation students, please contact Deb.
We have a large group this year so please consider becoming a mentor.
I have names of present and former mentors who will be happy to talk over how they felt about being a mentor.
If you already have been a mentor and would like to have the opportunity again please let me know.

Ministry opportunity
With the new fall schedule, we are looking for people who would like to read one or more Scripture lessons during either the 9 AM or the 10:30 AM worship services. If you are interested, please write your name, your phone number and the word “lector” on a Communion Card and drop it in the offering plate on Sunday

You may contact the Church office at any time. We will then call you to schedule a convenient time for you. Thank you to everyone who has helped with the Scripture readings this past summer.
ConFEST 2009

Zion Lutheran Church has again been asked to host ConFest on Wed. October 21 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. This event is for confirmation age students to come meet the Bishop, learn about the ELCA, our synod, other area organizations and have an awesome worship experience. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to open our church to area congregations. It will, however, take many helping hands to make this event run smoothly. I am in need of people to be here the night of the event to monitor the nearly 400 students that will attend as well as a few who will be willing to help with detailed planning. Please call Deb if you are willing to take part.

Sherry Sacia is interested in bringing back the Bell Choir and would like to know how many are interested in being part of the choir again. You don’t have to read music just be able to count. The group had a fun time together previously and it is too bad to have such a lovely set of Bells not being used. Any age is welcome to join the group. Just let Sherry know if you are interested and she will set up a practice schedule.
Vacation Bible School

Mark your calendars – V.B.S. is planned for Wed. August 12th. A one day event. This year’s theme is “Crocodile Dock” – Where Fearless Kids Shine God’s Light. Please join us for a day of discovery from 11:30 to 5:00.
We welcome all students entering kindergarten through 6th grade.

May is Volunteer Month
Do you ever think about how many volunteers it takes to keep our church running smoothly? Think, starting with the Church Council through hall the church services with acolytes, lectors, liturgists, ushers, communion servers, people who set up communion, those who make sure the candles are filled and working properly, those who make sure we have supplies on hand for communion, and candle care. There are choir members who enrich our worship services, they don’t just come on Sunday morning, they commit to practice during the week also. There are paraments that need to be changed and cleaned or ironed, banners kept up to date and cared for. The women who make quilts and also bring food whenever it is needed. The many hours that Kid’s Club leaders put in planning and teaching our young people. Many times spend their own money to provide needed supplies. Confirmation leaders and the Parish Pals who lead our young people on their faith journey. Remember those who count the money each week or the people who serve coffee for everyone to enjoy on Sunday mornings. The list goes on and on. There is a place for anyone and everyone to share their time and talents for our church – have you done your share? Thank you, thank you, thank you to those who have.
